Hello! I’m Anna, and I’m happy to welcome you to my virtual space. My husband of over 30 years and our children are on the Autism spectrum and have other neurodivergent conditions. This website is about my life as a neurotypical wife and mother, aiming to inspire fellow caregivers to reflect on what I wish I could have told my younger self. Thanks for checking it out!
Neurodivergence is a term used to describe variations in the brain. The term neurotypical (NT) refers to individuals connected to someone who is neurodivergent, such as a spouse, parent, partner, or caregiver. Neurodivergent conditions may include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including Asperger’s Syndrome/High Functioning Autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Tourette Syndrome, as well as long-term mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder (BPD).
Spirituality has been my anchor throughout this journey. I grew up in a Mennonite Christian family. Already, as a child, I had an intense longing for God. I remember walking through my parents’ vegetable garden and talking with God. Nobody taught me to do that, but here in the garden, God seemed so close to me. Facing the challenges of my own unique family, I became devout religious. I was holding onto faith like a person in water clings to a piece of grass. Many times, I cried out to God for help. Through it all, I re-evaluated my religious beliefs and realized the living reality of the Divine. God isn’t limited to religion; He is deeply personal and present in our daily lives.
In this blog, we’ll discuss everyday topics such as dealing with loneliness, taking care of ourselves, and spiritual topics—basically, how and why we keep going. Whether you are experiencing challenges related to neurodivergence or seeking encouragement during difficult times, I hope you find something meaningful, helpful, or just plain interesting. Thanks for joining me on this journey!
